Schmincke : Horadam Watercolor Paint : Metal Tin : 1930s Retro : Technical Colors : 9 Full Pans

The Schmincke Horadam Watercolor Paint Metal Tin 1930s Retro Technical Colors Set contains nine full pans inspired by the historic DIN 201 standard once used by architects, technical draughtsmen, and land registry offices. Presented in a retro metal tin featuring an archival owl motif on both the exterior and interior, the set recalls the technical color systems of the early 20th century. Each color represents a traditional material, including brass, cast steel, aluminum and concrete, offering a distinctive palette rooted in architectural heritage.

Harmonious and versatile, the colors can be used on their own or mixed to create a wide range of expressive tones. While historically functional, this unique palette forms an excellent foundation for modern watercolor painting, providing both nostalgic charm and contemporary creative potential.

This set is part of the Schmincke Horadam Retro Watercolor Collection. The range features a selection of special edition sets inspired by the original packaging design and color selections from a 1930s catalog in the Schmincke archives.

In order to achieve the best possible standards of lightfastness, resolubility and stability, Schmincke Horadam Watercolors contain only the finest raw materials.

The paints are bound with Kordofan gum arabic from the southern Sahara. Due to the natural source of the binder, the gum arabic does tend to differ slightly year on year. Schmincke continually test the ingredients, and the best of the batch is selected to ensure the highest quality is achieved. This means paint which has dried onto your palette can be easily re-wetted and painted with again.
