Traditional Silverpoint Ground is a ready-to-use dry mix based on Cennino Cennini’s original 15th-century recipe, providing the perfect absorbency, texture, and surface hardness for silverpoint and other metalpoint drawings. Designed for rigid supports like wood panels and heavyweight paper, it also works beautifully for egg tempera, distemper, watercolor, and oil painting.

With four coats, this ground creates an eggshell-like surface for smooth, expressive mark-making. It can be tinted with Rublev Colours Aqueous Pigment Dispersions to achieve historically inspired hues like yellow ocher, indigo, and alizarin crimson. Simple to mix and store, it offers a versatile, archival foundation for traditional and contemporary artists alike.
