About this supply

Khadi Lokta Nepalese Papers are handmade mountain papers from Eastern Nepal. They are made from the inner bark fiber of lokta, a plant that grows above 3000 metres in the Himalayan foothills and produces a strong, durable paper.

Naturally lightweight, ranging from 30gsm to 90gsm, these papers feature a uniquely textured surface and four deckle edges. The paper is not absorbent and can be used with pen and ink for calligraphy, as well as for collage, printmaking, and wrapping.

Lokta is a renewable resource, and the dyeing is carried out in the Kathmandu Valley using dyes that meet current EU standards for effluence and toxicology. Both the collection of the fiber and the manufacture of the paper provide valuable employment in local communities.
