Color: Michael Harding Rose Madder Pigment Index: NR 9 (Natural Red) Transparency: Transparent Lightfastness: Fugitive Price Series: 6 A traditional Lake pigment, extracted from the common madder plant Rubia Tinctorum. The plant was grown in Asia and Egypt for the purpose of dyeing as early as 1500 BC. Despite its fugitive nature, its inclusion in the range is for its historic and color beauty and is simply here to let artists get closer to the palettes of earlier times. Unless you display it in direct sunshine it will last for years with little change. A favored color of the Old Masters. Michael Harding Oil Colors are among the finest oil paints available to artists today. Michael Harding's colors have a high load of top quality pigments, ground in refined cold-pressed linseed oil. They are completely free of fillers, extenders, or driers, resulting in pure, rich, and vibrant colors that are lightfast and buttery. First manufactured in 1982, Michael Harding Artists' Oil Colors are exceptional quality and are made by hand. They are very popular with some of the world's finest artists, including David Hockney, Chris Ofili, and the late Sir Howard Hodgkin.
