Painting Abstract Landscapes by Gareth Edwards and Kate Reeve-Edwards is a captivating exploration of how emotion and atmosphere can be expressed through abstraction while still capturing the spirit of the landscape. Building on the tradition first developed by Turner, this book examines the technical, historical, and psychological aspects of abstract landscape painting, guiding artists to develop their own distinctive and expressive approach.

Drawing on Gareth Edwards’ hauntingly beautiful paintings, the authors reveal how to begin with chance application and learn to ‘manage accidents’ to create innovative compositions. Topics include composition, perspective, and the subtle role of light, space, color, and tone in creating depth and emotion. With practical guidance on glazing, surface texture and professional finishing, this richly illustrated book is an inspiring and comprehensive guide to mastering this evocative, underexplored genre.
