About this product range

Developed for professional muralists and theme designers, Golden Paintworks Mural and Theme Acrylic Paint offers a range of extraordinary colors. Formulated using a high concentration of artist-grade pigments and advanced resin technologies, this range of 49 intense, opaque, lightfast colors is specially designed for murals, themed facades, entertainment venues, color-branded commercial buildings, and more. 100% acrylic and architectural grade, Mural and Theme Paint offers great coverage and outstanding self-leveling. Colors mix cleanly, dry to an even, satin sheen, and provide excellent durability. Colors can be diluted with water for use as a glaze or wash. Choose from a range of standard and iridescent colors. Transparent iron oxide colors are formulated using transparent, non-toxic pigments with excellent color strength, weathering stability, and UV absorption. Extremely versatile, they work well for aged effects as washes or mixed in glazes.

*All colors are created for both interior and exterior use except for Dioxazine Purple, Quinacridone Magenta and Ultramarine Blue which require a UV protective clear topcoat for outdoor stability.

Red Iron Oxide

Pigment code
PR101
Type
earth, synthetic
Chemical name
iron oxides (synthetic), iron oxide, silica, alumina, lime, and magnesia or hydrated iron oxide
Chemical formula
Fe2O2 or Fe2O3 x H2O
Properties
Red iron oxide varies in hue and transparency, depending on hydration and slight impurities. Indian Red is a slightly duller, deep brick hue with a bluish undertone. It is very dense and opaque, with excellent tinting strength and covering power. It is dependable when mixing with all other permanent pigments and yields good flesh tints when mixed with Zinc White. It is the synthetic version of PR102, which is a pigment made from earth reds, or natural red iron oxides, and the names applied to PR101 and PR102 often overlap. The synthetic red iron oxides have mostly replaced natural red iron oxides and are brighter, stronger, finer, and more permanent. Indian Red is the highest grade bluish shade. Light Red, English Red, and Venetian Red are yellowish shades. Mars Violet is a dull and subdued bluish or purplish oxide.
Permanence
Red iron oxide is very lightfast with excellent permanence.
Toxicity
Red iron oxide has no significant hazards.
History
Natural red iron oxide comes from the mineral ore hematite, called bloodstone by the ancient Greeks from the word hema, meaning blood. It is one of the oldest pigments, has been used by every major civilization, and was an important mineral for medieval alchemists. It was not widely used in artists' materials until the 17th century and was not produced in large quantities until the 18th century.
Description
Indian Red, Colcothar, English Red, Light Red, Mars Red, Mars Violet, Morelle Salt, Pompeian Red, Indian Red, Red Oxide, Sinopia, Spanish Red, Terra Rosa, Tuscan Red, Venetian Red, Venice Red.

Nickel Azo Yellow

Pigment code
PY150
Type
inorganic
Chemical name
nickel azomethine yellow
Chemical formula
C30H18Cl2N6NiO4
Properties
Nickel Azo Yellow is a transparent, moderately staining yellow pigment with high tinting strength. It is considered a good color match in botanical and landscape painting for natural gamboge (NY24), a historic yellow pigment with fair to poor lightfastness.
Permanence
Nickel azomethine yellow has excellent lightfastness.
Toxicity
Nickel azo yellow pigment is mildly toxic, and is often labeled as hazardous. Avoid respiratory and skin exposure to pigment dust. It should be disposed of properly with other hazardous wastes, not washed down the sink.
History
Nickel azomethine yellow has been developed as an artist pigment becasue it is a close match for gamboge, a historic yellow.
Description
Gamboge Hue, New Gamboge.

Phthalo Green

Pigment code
PG36
Type
organic
Chemical name
polybromopolychlorinated copper(II) phthalocyanine
Chemical formula
C32H3Cl13CuN8 to C32HCl15CuN8 or C32H16CuN8Cl15 (PG7) or C32Br6Cl10CuN8 (PG36)
Properties
Phthalo Green is a transparent, cool, bright, high intensity color used in oil and acrylics. It comes from a Phthalocyanine Blue pigment where most of the hydrogen atoms have been replaced with chlorine, forming highly stable molecules. Pigment PG36 differs from PG7 in that a portion of the chlorine atoms are replaced with bromine atoms, which are reactively similar, but cause a yellow shift that is especially noticeable in mixtures. Phthalo Green has similar pigment properties and permanence to Phthalo Blue. It is slow drying and an excellent base color for mixing a range of bright greens. Phthalo Green is considered a very good alternative to Viridian because it is intense and mixes well and can be used to emphasize mineral colors in various tints. However, its tinting strength is very high, so it can overpower other colors. This pigment most closely resembles the discontinued and toxic Verdigris.
Permanence
Phthalo Greens are completely lightfast and resistant to alkali, acids, solvents, heat, and ultraviolet radiation. They are currently used in inks, coatings, and many plastics due to their stability and are considered a standard pigment in printing ink and the packaging industry.
Toxicity
Phthalo Green has no significant hazards, but it contained PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) until 1982.
History
This bright blue-green was developed in 1935 and has been in use since 1938.
Description
Bocour Green, Cyan Green, Intense Green, Monastral Green, Phthalocyanine Green, Rembrandt Green, Thalo Green, Winsor Green.

Mars Black

Pigment code
PBk11
Type
earth
Chemical name

Mars Black is an opaque black with a strong and cool masstone, a slightly warm tint, and a warm brown undertone. It is not as black as Ivory Black, but it dries more quickly and has three times the tinting strength. Mars Black is normally the only black available in acrylic form and that is safe to over paint. It can be used in all media without reservation and is widely used as an alternative to Lamp Black and Ivory Black.
Permanence
