This Japanese Ball Bearing Baren is a modern baren manufactured in Japan that can be used in place of a bamboo baren for woodblock printing and for printing with oil-based inks from wood and lino. The very high number of smaller ball bearings (around 614) makes this baren print very evenly and sensitively, including areas of fine detail, large flat areas, and it works beautifully with lighter weight washi. It is always recommended to use a sheet of baking parchment or greaseproof paper on top of the washi whilst printing to protect the washi fibers. Manufactured from acrylic resin, this baren is 127mm in diameter, so large enough to accommodate your knuckles and heel of hand when gripping the integral molded handle.
