Jackson's : Plein Air Day : Sculpture by the Lakes

<p>Due to limited capacity, places are allocated to participating artists only. Supportive companions are welcome to join the day, but will need to purchase a special advance ticket for entry via the venue website or a standard ticket on the day.</p> <p>£3 covers Jackson's costs, and any remaining proceeds support the venue.</p> <p>Tickets are refundable up to seven days before the event.</p> <p><strong>Schedule</strong></p> <ul> <li>10am arrival</li> <li>10.15am welcome gathering</li> <li>Spend the day painting, drawing, or printing</li> <li>3pm meet-up for a group reflection</li> </ul> <p><strong>What to expect</strong></p> <p>A casual gathering for artists of all levels to connect and respond to the landscape together, with support and advice on hand from a Jackson's art materials specialist, and a meet-up at the end of the day to look at everyone's artworks. Whether you paint, draw, print, or work with any other medium, everyone is welcome.</p> <p><strong>How to get there</strong></p> <p>​By train: The nearest station is Moreton, which is a 10-minute taxi ride away. Moreton is on the South West Main Line, which runs an hourly service from London Waterloo to Weymouth.</p><p>By car: Sculpture by the Lakes is situated in the village of Pallington, 1 mile east of Tincleton on the Ilsington Road between the A35 at Dorchester and the B3990 Waddock Drove.</p><p>From Dorchester: Take the A35 heading towards Bere Regis (east) from Dorchester. Turn off at the junction signed to Affpuddle, Warmwell and Crossways. Follow the brown signs onto B3990 Waddock Drove, turn right off this road and head west towards Tincleton for .7 miles. The entrance is on the left before you go under the power lines.</p> <p>From Bere Regis: Take the A35 heading towards Dorchester (west). The entrance is on the left before you go under the power lines.</p> <p><strong>About Sculpture by the Lakes</strong></p> <p>Set in 26 acres near Dorchester, Sculpture by the Lakes offers a unique blend of art and nature. Established in 2011 within a former fishery, the venue showcases over 120 sculptures by renowned artist Simon Gudgeon and other sculptors, set amongst lakes, gardens, and the River Frome, offering a peaceful, immersive experience in a thoughtfully designed, rural setting.</p> <p><strong>Recommended views</strong></p> <p>With reflective lakes, riverside views, and vibrant gardens, Sculpture by the Lakes offers an abundance of plein air inspiration. Sculptures complement the natural setting, while open lawns, blooming borders, and calm waters offer shifting light and form, ideal for capturing peaceful, atmospheric scenes.</p> <p><strong>What to bring</strong></p> <p>If you're new to plein air or returning after a break, we've pulled together a <em><u><a href="https://www.jacksonsart.com/art-techniques/plein-air/plein-air-kit-suggestions" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>curated list of materials</u></em></strong></a> to help you prepare - whether you work in oils, acrylics, watercolor, printmaking, or drawing. With thousands of plein air products available on our website, purchasing in advance is the most practical option, and is the reason why we don't bring materials to our events.</p> <p><strong>Accessibility</strong></p> <p>There is disabled parking close to The Kitchen and disabled toilets. Access to The Sculpture Park and The Makers Yard is wheelchair friendly.</p> <p>The Sculpture Park is relatively flat with undulating areas but is uneven in some places. There are a few grassy paths so in dry weather wheelchairs can get all the way around, but mobility scooters with small wheels may find these areas more difficult. Before visiting, please consider the weather and how this might affect the ground conditions. If you are bringing a mobility scooter, please make sure the battery is fully charged on arrival. Alternatively, you are welcome to bring your own food and drinks into the park.</p> <p><strong>Wet weather contingency</strong></p> <p>The event will go ahead, whatever the weather, so bring suitable clothing for wet weather if it rains.</p> <p><strong>Caring for Sculpture by the Lakes</strong></p> <p>This event is being organised to bring artists together and to highlight the beauty found throughout the UK. Please respect the area throughout the event and take all your litter home with you or dispose of it in bins. All dirty water and solvents should be taken home and disposed of responsibly. Nothing is to be staked into the ground (i.e. umbrellas, gazebos etc.), and please respect the out-of-bounds areas.</p> <p><strong>Please note</strong></p> <p>Film and photography may be taking place throughout the event to document the day, for potential promotional purposes.
