Mayco Jungle Gems Crystal Glaze - Black Iris, Pint

• Cone 06–05 firing range
• Glossy finish
• Three coats for opaque
• Food safe, not dinnerware safe

Mayco Lead-Free Jungle Gems Crystal Glazes contain small pieces of glass frit that transform into splashes of color and patterns when fired, demonstrating the magic of the kiln. These incredible glazes can be used alone for overall dramatic effects or be combined with other glazes, such as Mayco Stroke & Coat, to add visual interest. Create your own unique glazes by layering different crystal glazes, as the crystals will burst through the glaze surfaces.

Jungle Gems Crystal Glazes are formulated to mature at cone 06/05, but many can be fired to higher temperatures. *Matte glazes will become glossy when fired above Cone 06. All other glazes remain glossy regardless of the temperature.

Firing the glazes vertically or flat will affect the final look, as these glazes will move during firing, affecting the flow of the crystals. The mid-range (cone 6) performance of each glaze can be found on the individual color label or on Mayco’s website. Higher heat work will increase the movement, which means the lower portion of the ware should not be glazed completely.
