Townsend Dry Grounds give pastel artists greater control over surface texture, layering, and adhesion. Made from pumice tinted with pigment and combined with a binding formula, the block adheres to paper and creates a delicate, minimal tooth that supports subtle pastel application.

Apply to paper while wearing gloves, rub into the surface, and dust away the excess before drawing. It can also be used over and between pastel layers for blending and layering effects, allowing for more aggressive surface manipulation.

Artists can apply fixative over the dry ground or, alternatively, apply a layer of fixative directly to paper, wait about a minute, and begin drawing. This flexible preparation method makes it easy to experiment with pastel on a variety of paper surfaces.
