Alla Prima : Skies and Seas : Book by Mark Stopforth

Alla Prima Skies and Seas by Mark Stopforth offers a detailed introduction to the dynamic alla prima technique, where paint is applied rapidly over earlier washes and layers before they have dried. Stopforth demonstrates how this approach can be used without a brush to create powerful, expressive interpretations of skies and seas, showing how fluid marks and rapid handling bring atmosphere and movement to the surface.

The book explains how alla prima methods support bold, confident work that reflects the energetic spirit found in the paintings of Turner, Van Gogh, and Constable. With clear instruction and inspiring examples, it helps artists explore a freer way of working while developing their own expressive responses to the natural world.
