Hawthorn Copper Sulfate Crystals can be used as a safer alternative to nitric acid for etching aluminum or zinc. Adding sodium chloride (table salt) enhances the etching solution’s performance and longevity. To prepare a Saline Sulfate etch, mix 100g of copper sulfate with 100g of common salt in 1 litre of warm water. This solution is especially effective on zinc.
