Sansho : Camellia Oil : 240ml
SKU RKMSCO
Sansho Camellia Oil is a traditional Japanese plant oil from Camellia seeds, prized for protecting and maintaining bamboo printing barens as well as sharpening and maintaining tools (if working with water-based mokuhanga, a water-based sharpening system can be safer to avoid oil contaminating your woodblock). New bamboo barens can be slightly lubricated by using just a drop or two of camellia oil, and traditionally, a folded cloth pad is placed next to your printing area for the baren to sit on while you print. This pad will eventually become saturated with oil, of which a small amount will be transferred to the baren as it rests there. After printing, your baren must not be stored sitting on the pad. The Camellia oil will aid the glide of the baren as well as maintain its condition and prevent moisture from the paper getting into the bamboo.
