Manufactured in France, Clairefontaine Pastelmat Pads have a legendary reputation among the world's leading pastelists. Ideal for use with all types of pastels, this unique surface grabs pigment so powerfully that colors are exceptionally vibrant and no fixatives are needed to keep pigments stable. Pastelmat allows artists to apply pastels with soft, buttery marks, offering superior control for layering, blending, and fine line techniques. Made from cellulose plant fibers, Pastelmat Pads generate only small amounts of dust, are easy on artists’ fingers when blending, and allow for the use of foam and sponge applicators for painting and blending.

These versatile pads are also economical — pigment abrades gently, so pastel sticks and pencils are consumed 30% - 40% slower than sanded papers. Pastelmat supports wet media techniques with water or solvents, allowing artists to easily create underpaintings as the base layer of their artwork.

Pastelmat supports all types of pastels, including soft, medium, and hard pastels, oil pastels, pastel pencils, colored pencils, and charcoal.

Pastelmat is acid-free and pH neutral. Pads contain 12 sheets of Pastelmat card and have glassine sheet protectors between each page.
